DSB orders new S-Bane fleet for Copenhagen

Danish State Railways (DSB) has awarded a contract for at least 226 new commuter trains for Copenhagen’s S-Bane network to a Siemens Mobility–Stadler consortium.
The contract is valued at DKr 23 billion (around EUR 3.1 billion) and includes a 30-year maintenance agreement. The consortium is responsible for the maintenance programme, while DSB staff will perform the day-to-day work.
DSB expects the first trains to enter service in 2032, starting on Line F (København Syd–Hellerup), with fully automated, driverless operation targeted across the network by around 2040.
Alstom to supply 70 trains for Toronto metro upgrade
Alstom has reached an agreement with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to supply 70 new subway trains for Line 2 in Toronto, in a deal valued at CAD 2.3 billion (around EUR 1.4 billion).
Fifty-five units are intended to replace the existing T1 fleet on Line 2. The remaining 15 are planned for extensions to Lines 1 and 2, including the Yonge North and Scarborough projects. Final assembly is planned in Thunder Bay, with testing in Kingston.
Baden-Württemberg orders 26 Coradia Max EMUs from Alstom
Baden-Württemberg’s rolling-stock agency SFBW has ordered 26 additional Coradia Max double-deck electric multiple-units from Alstom in a contract valued at around EUR 500 million. The deal includes a full-service maintenance agreement running until 2055.
The purchase uses an option agreed in May 2022 under a wider framework covering 130 Coradia Max trains. The Coradia Max fleet is scheduled to enter service from December 2026, with the additional 26 units delivered from mid to late 2028.
Czech Railways seeks 120 battery trains
Czech Railways (České dráhy) has launched two procurement processes for up to 120 battery-electric regional trainsets. The trains will draw power from overhead lines where available and run on batteries on non-electrified sections.
The programme covers two train categories, BEMU130 and BEMU135, with an initial order of 13 units guaranteed. Further purchases will depend on regional service contracts and funding.
SNCF orders bi-mode Régiolis for Nouvelle-Aquitaine
SNCF Voyageurs has awarded CAF a contract to supply 10 bi-mode Régiolis regional trainsets for services in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The four-car trains, each with 208 seats, are intended for routes where electrification is incomplete.
Bi-mode operation allows trains to run under overhead lines and continue directly onto non-electrified sections, avoiding transfers and supporting regional timetable continuity.
