Czech Railways seeks suppliers for up to 120 battery-electric regional trains

Czech Railways (České dráhy) has launched two procurement processes for up to 120 battery-electric regional trainsets. The trains are intended to draw power from overhead lines where available and switch to batteries on non-electrified sections.
The procurement is split into two train categories, labelled BEMU130 and BEMU135. The operator says it plans an initial purchase of 13 units — seven BEMU130 and six BEMU135 — with further orders depending on regional service requirements and funding.
Initial purchase and supplier competition
České dráhy is seeking framework agreements allowing follow-on orders. The company says the initial order is guaranteed, while any additional units would be linked to regions’ decisions on service contracts.
The two categories are structured as separate procurements. The tender allows for up to 40 units of the BEMU130 type and up to 80 units of the BEMU135 type.
What the contracts are expected to cover
Beyond the trainsets themselves, the contracts are expected to include maintenance and servicing support. That includes spare parts supply and a system for swapping and repairing components off the train.
České dráhy says maintenance terms will form part of the negotiations, including the possibility of a full-service package.’
What’s next: The procurement will move through supplier selection and negotiations, with the first 13 units to be contracted as the initial order under the framework approach.
