ZEDAS
ZEDAS is a German software developer whose asset management platform incorporates predictive maintenance capabilities for railway vehicles and infrastructure, headquartered in Senftenberg, Brandenburg.
The company was founded in 1990 and has built its business around two in-house software suites, Zedas Asset and Zedas Cargo.
Zedas Asset began as a maintenance planning and documentation system and has since incorporated predictive functions built on operational data collected from vehicles and infrastructure.
In May 2024, ZEDAS received a strategic investment from Arcadea Group, a permanent-hold software investor.
Predictive maintenance approach
Zedas Asset draws on continuously collected condition and load data, such as mileage and recorded fault reports, to generate forecasts of component wear.
These forecasts feed load-dependent maintenance planning, allowing maintenance to be scheduled according to an asset’s actual condition rather than fixed time intervals alone.
The company has indicated wheelset wear prediction as one of the applications of its machine learning components.
Market position
ZEDAS describes its customer base as railway undertakings, infrastructure managers, industrial rail operators and workshops, concentrated in Germany and neighbouring European markets.
Reported customers for its asset management software include RWE Power and Regionalverkehre Start Deutschland.
The company’s predictive maintenance functions sit within its wider Zedas Asset suite rather than being sold as a standalone product.
Ownership and current activity
Following the 2024 Arcadea Group investment, ZEDAS continues to operate under its existing management and brand, with co-founder Wolfgang Jahn remaining as CEO.
ZEDAS presented its maintenance software, including the Zedas Asset Infra and Rolling Stock modules, at the International Exhibition for Track Technology (iaf) in 2025.
The company also hosted its own ZEDAS Summit in Dresden in April 2025, bringing together railway operators and maintenance providers to discuss digital maintenance trends.
