VONSCH is a Slovak developer and manufacturer of custom power electronics, including traction inverters and drives, headquartered in Brezno in central Slovakia.
VONSCH spol. s r.o. was founded in 1990 and entered in the Slovak commercial register in 1992, at the District Court of Banská Bystrica. The company remains privately held.
It is headquartered at Budovateľská 13 in Brezno, in the Banská Bystrica region. According to its LinkedIn profile, the company employs between 11 and 50 people.

Traction inverters and drives
VONSCH supplies custom traction inverters under the LOKO CONTROL designation, built on vector control of AC motors. The drives can be powered from traction batteries or DC overhead lines.
Each traction drive is engineered to the customer’s specific technical and operational parameters rather than sold as a standard product. The systems include auxiliary circuits such as control of sanders, hydraulics and battery charging.
The company states that its most frequent traction applications are drives for mining locomotives, and that it has experience with ATEX-certified drives and power electronics. Referenced projects include the drive for LEA, which the company describes as the first Slovak electric car, electric trucks, and the control system for the Desim EE90 mining locomotive presented in Poland in 2009.
Wider portfolio and market position
Traction is one line within a broader power electronics programme. VONSCH also produces frequency converters spanning 370 W to 1400 kW, including the UNIFREM family, alongside softstarters, photovoltaic inverters, converters for small hydropower plants, and artificial AC mains with customer-defined frequency and amplitude.
The UNIFREM 690 generation covers motors rated from 315 kW to 1400 kW at 690 V supply voltage, with vector control of both induction and synchronous motors. These converters are built to order and delivered as enclosed units.
According to the company’s own recruitment material, its products are in service in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland, as well as in countries in Africa and Australia. Core customer segments are industrial drives, mining and energy — railway traction sits within this custom-engineering business rather than as a standalone division.
Current activity
The company’s most recently announced development platform is NEXIBOOST, a family of non-insulated, bidirectional buck-boost DC-DC converters for customer-specific applications. VONSCH states the platform handles currents up to 140 A DC and voltages up to 1000 V DC.
One of the first NEXIBOOST applications is the UTNS-01 charger for suspended mining locomotives, which the company reports as certified. VONSCH has also announced that frequency converters up to 200 kW are now available directly from stock, with higher power ratings shipped within five days.
