SoC-e / Relyum
System-on-Chip engineering (SoC-e) is a Spanish developer of Ethernet networking technology for rail vehicles and other critical systems, headquartered in Bilbao and selling end equipment under the Relyum brand.
SoC-e was co-founded in 2010 by Armando Astarloa, a full professor at the University of the Basque Country. According to the company, it is part of INZU Group, a Basque industrial group, and its technology has been applied in more than 200 projects worldwide.
Its team combines Master- and PhD-level engineers in networking, synchronisation and cybersecurity.
Core products and services
The core business is intellectual property cores for field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), implementing high-availability Ethernet: seamless redundancy with High-availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR) and the Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP), sub-microsecond synchronisation based on IEEE 1588, and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN). The FPGA basis allows products to be upgraded as TSN standards evolve.
Under the Relyum brand, this technology is packaged as end equipment: TSN switches and endpoint devices, redundancy boxes, and test and validation tools used when networks migrate to deterministic Ethernet. Cybersecurity functions such as MACsec (media access control security) encryption are built into the platforms.
In industrial networking for rail, the company promotes TSN as the successor data link layer for train communication networks, an argument laid out in its own technical publications.
Market position
SoC-e licenses its technology to equipment manufacturers and supplies end devices across rail, energy, aerospace and defence, and industrial automation. The company contributes to IEC and IEEE standardisation working groups on TSN and participates in interoperability events for the technology.
Within the railway connectivity and communications domain, its position is upstream: the switching, synchronisation and redundancy technology that onboard network builders integrate into their systems.
Current activity
In March 2026, SoC-e announced a new research and development project funded through the Basque Government’s HAZITEK 2025 programme, focused on communication and processing systems for mission-critical vehicles.
