SEG — Sogema Engineering is a French manufacturer of railway depot machinery, based in Lys-lez-Lannoy near Lille, supplying underfloor wheel lathes, wheelset presses and test benches to workshops worldwide.
SEG operates from Lys-lez-Lannoy in the Lille region of northern France. The brand traces its origins to 1980, while the current legal entity Sogema Engineering was registered in 2000.
SEG has been part of the French CIM group since 2013 and, according to the company’s own channels, employs between 11 and 50 people.
Core products and services
SEG designs, manufactures and installs wheel and wheelset equipment and related depot machinery. The range covers underfloor wheel lathes for wheel reprofiling, wheelset mounting and dismounting presses, bogie presses, spring testing machines and wheelset measuring benches.
The company also supplies depot lifting and handling equipment, placing it across several segments of the maintenance and workshop equipment market. Its equipment serves locomotives, high-speed trains, electric and diesel multiple units, passenger coaches, freight wagons, metros and tramways.
Services include maintenance contracts, spare parts supply, machine relocation, commissioning and training. SEG also renovates and retrofits older machines, including equipment from other manufacturers.
Market position
According to the company’s own channels, SEG’s customers are railway operators, rolling stock manufacturers and builders of maintenance workshops worldwide. Reference projects include an RNG20 underfloor wheel lathe installed for the Paris tramway line T3 and wheelset presses delivered to the Algerian national railway SNTF.
SEG overhauled a Hoesch underfloor wheel lathe for Docklands Light Railway in London in October 2017, replacing the CNC control, measuring heads and electric and hydraulic components. The company has also supplied a wheelset mounting press for an Indian Railways wheelset production plant and an RNG20 wheel lathe for the Panama Metro Line 2 workshop under a turnkey contract won by its parent group CIM.
