RideOnTrack
RideOnTrack is a Belgian supplier of operational telecommunication systems for mission-critical networks, headquartered in Geel and serving railway infrastructure managers and operators across Europe.
Founded in 2012, the company employs around 13 full-time equivalents according to its most recent Belgian annual accounts. It develops and tests its systems in its own laboratory in Geel.
RideOnTrack is a member of UNIFE, the European rail supply industry association.
Core products and services
The product line covers fixed operational telecommunication for railways: dispatching systems, voice recording, gateways and the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Call Flow Manager that ties these functions together. The systems handle the ground-side voice and data traffic that keeps trains, dispatchers and trackside staff connected.
CodiTrack, the company’s telecom measurement suite, monitors the performance of Long-Term Evolution (LTE), 5G, Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway (GSM-R) and Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) networks. The rEdge V2 measurement unit is certified to EN 50155, the standard for electronic equipment on rolling stock.
As European railways prepare the shift to FRMCS and 5G for rail, RideOnTrack has extended its dispatching and gateway portfolio to the Mission-Critical Services (MCX) framework that underpins the new standard.
Market position
According to the company’s own channels, its dispatching system is used by Infrabel in Belgium and ProRail in the Netherlands for operational telephony. SETER, the SNCF subsidiary operating the Dakar-AIBD railway in Senegal, maintains an ongoing contract with RideOnTrack for the line’s communication infrastructure.
In 2018, Estonian infrastructure manager Eesti Raudtee awarded RideOnTrack a dispatcher renewal contract following a European tendering procedure. In 2018–2019, the company also delivered operational communication software applications to Nokia under a series of orders.
Within the connectivity and communications layer of the railway system, the company occupies the fixed-network side: the dispatching, recording and gateway functions that sit between the radio network and the control room.
Current activity
RideOnTrack supports the MORANE-2 project, the European testbed for the migration from GSM-R to 5G-based railway communication, with its FRMCS dispatching system in Ericsson’s laboratory.
