Railnova
Railnova is a Belgian provider of fleet telematics and maintenance management software for the rail industry, headquartered in Brussels and founded in 2010. The company employs approximately 40 people (as of 2025) and operates across Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Switzerland.
The product suite combines onboard hardware with cloud-based fleet and maintenance software.
The Railster is a remote monitoring and edge computing device that connects to rolling stock via a wide range of fieldbuses — CAN, MVB, Profibus, RS232, RS485, J1708, Ethernet, and analogue inputs — and transmits diagnostic data, fault codes, and position in real time to a cloud back-end over cellular networks. The device supports edge computing, allowing custom rules and alerts to be processed onboard before transmission.
Railfleet is the fleet and maintenance management platform, structured across three modules: Railfleet Operational (real-time asset availability and dispatch tracking), Railfleet ECM (maintenance scheduling, traceability, and documentation in support of Regulation (EU) 2019/779 compliance), and Railfleet Monitoring (condition-based maintenance planning and diagnostics).
The platform integrates with customer ERP and asset management systems via standard web service APIs and ODBC interfaces. Railgenius is a rule-based diagnostics tool that allows engineering teams to encode maintenance logic, filter and prioritise fault code alerts, and provide live remote support to drivers and field technicians.
Certifications and standards
Railnova’s cloud infrastructure uses SSL/TLS encryption with client-separated databases. The Railfleet ECM module supports compliance workflows under Regulation (EU) 2019/779 on maintenance documentation and traceability. The platform architecture supports multi-company and multi-fleet deployments, serving operators, rolling stock lessors, and maintainers.
Reference projects
Customers include DB Cargo, NS, Eurotunnel, SNCF, Lineas, SBB Cargo, Beacon Rail Leasing, Alpha Trains, and Erion. DB Cargo has been a customer since 2015, with deployment across Traxx electric freight locomotives and Vossloh G1000 diesel locomotives.
Recent activity
Railnova exhibited at a European rail industry exhibition in Utrecht in March 2024, where the company presented the Railster dashboard and positioned its offering around operators’ ability to access and analyse rolling stock data independently of OEM systems.
