Premium PSU
Premium S.A., trading as Premium PSU, is a Spanish manufacturer of power conversion systems for railway and industrial applications, founded in 1981 and based in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona.
Premium designs, tests and manufactures its entire product range in Barcelona. According to the company, its engineering team exceeds 50 engineers and its portfolio spans more than 900 custom-made designs alongside a standard range of over 260 products.
The company has supplied transportation manufacturers since 1985. Power ratings range from 50 W to 72 kW.
Rail products
The rail portfolio covers DC/DC and AC/DC converters, DC/AC inverters, uninterruptible power supplies and variable frequency drives. These units feed onboard subsystems — doors, passenger sockets, catering equipment, control electronics — from the vehicle’s battery or auxiliary supply.
Standard series include the CTS-240 (up to 280 W, Eurocard 3U format), the CRS-1000 (1,000 W) and the CBS-10K, a silicon-carbide-based converter delivering up to 10 kW peak. Products comply with EN 50155 for rolling stock electronics and EN 45545-2 for fire and smoke behaviour.
Premium positions customisation as its core offer: standard units are modified to project requirements, and full custom designs are developed where needed.
Market position
Premium supplies rolling stock manufacturers and system integrators internationally. Within the European power supply and electrification landscape, the company occupies the low- and medium-power conversion segment on board the vehicle.
The company claims to be the first power engineering supplier to offer variable frequency drives designed specifically for the railway market.
Current activity
Premium’s Spark Series, introduced in 2025, comprises units designed to draw power directly from the catenary line, including the OVX-6400 three-phase inverter (6,400 VA) and the CVS-280 converter for vehicle start-up. The bidirectional BDS-10K battery charger-inverter extends the range toward battery-hybrid applications.
