Neuron Soundware
Neuron Soundware is a Czech developer of acoustic condition monitoring systems that use machine learning to detect mechanical faults in industrial and transport equipment, including applications in European rail.
Neuron Soundware was founded in Prague in 2016 by Pavel Konečný, who leads the company as CEO. Business databases report a team of roughly 14–17 people; the company is backed by investors including Inven Capital and J&T Ventures.
Its technology addresses a recurring gap in the digital systems and software stack of rail operators: components that carry no built-in sensors but reveal their condition through sound. Acoustic monitoring is one of several AI and machine learning applications now in operational use in rail, adding continuous listening alongside existing condition-monitoring methods such as vibration analysis.
Products
The current hardware line is built around nEdge and nEdge Pro, edge computing devices that capture and process vibration, acoustic, temperature, current, and pressure data locally rather than streaming it to the cloud. Neural networks trained on machine sound data compare live audio against nominal behaviour and flag developing faults.
Results are visualised in the nGuard platform, where operators can review alerts and stored sound samples over time; the platform now also incorporates a large language model (LLM)-based assistant for interpreting machine condition data.
Deployments and applications
In rail and metro environments, the company’s reference project is a 2021 deployment for Prague public transport operator Dopravní podnik hlavního města Prahy (DPP), where its system monitors escalators for early fault detection; according to the company, a similar installation followed at the Vienna metro. The company has also applied its technology to rolling stock, including fault detection in pneumatic train door components.
Beyond transport, the company runs a 2025 pilot with Repsol monitoring solar and industrial photovoltaic inverters, and has developed Sound Shield, an acoustic system for detecting drones using its nEdge Mini hardware.
Current activity
In 2026, the company presented at Hannover Messe and reached the top three in the ST Innovation Challenge’s industrial category. According to the company, it has also been included in StartUs Insights’ Railroad Innovation Map, a scouting overview of startups in the sector rather than a ranked award.
