EVPÚ
EVPÚ is a Slovak developer and manufacturer of power electronics for rail vehicles, headquartered in Nová Dubnica and combining in-house research, production, and accredited testing laboratories.
EVPÚ traces its origins to the Electrotechnical Research Institute, established in 1965–66 within the ZŤS heavy-industry concern and operating as an independent state research organisation from 1968. The institute developed traction equipment for electric locomotives among its early research areas.
Following the political changes of 1990, the research and development base was reorganised as a state enterprise, and the organisation was transformed into a joint-stock company in 1994. Today EVPÚ, a.s. is registered in the Trenčín commercial register and led by CEO Michal Pavlík.
The company established subsidiaries in the 1990s, including EVPÚ ZVS in Dubnica nad Váhom (1996) and a commercial representation in the Czech Republic (1998). A Czech sister company, EVPÚ Defence, has operated since 2001.
Traction and auxiliary converters
EVPÚ develops and manufactures traction converters, static converters for auxiliary drives, electrodynamic brakes, and vehicle control systems, including integration with traction motors. Its auxiliary-drive converters cover input voltages from 700 V DC to 3,000 V DC and power ranges from 3 kW to 120 kW, built on modular insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) technology.
Delivered vehicle projects include complete traction and auxiliary systems for trolleybuses, auxiliary inverters for metro vehicles, converters for trams and electric buses, and main and auxiliary converters for mining locomotives.
Drive systems are controlled via Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, with redundant operating modes and parallel inverter cooperation for supply reliability.
The company also supplies static converters for railway infrastructure, including point-heating supplies and high-voltage sources for testing purposes. Its research department has published work on silicon carbide (SiC) inverter modules for railway auxiliary converters.
Certification and business areas
EVPÚ holds ISO 9001, IRIS, ISO 14001, and EN 15085-2 railway welding certification, alongside Allied Quality Assurance Publication (AQAP) 2110 certification for its defence business. The company also holds an Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM) certificate.
Beyond rail, EVPÚ operates in defence electro-optics and stabilised current sources, and runs accredited testing and certification laboratories used by external customers.
Current activity
EVPÚ is a confirmed exhibitor at InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin (22–25 September 2026), listed on the company’s own trade show calendar. The company’s fair listing names Martin Hraško as contact for the fair.
