Boom Software
Boom Software is an Austrian developer of asset and maintenance management software for rail vehicles, headquartered in Leibnitz and serving operators and maintenance organisations in the European rail sector, primarily in German-speaking markets.
Boom Software AG was founded in 1995 in Leibnitz, Austria. Around 100 employees work at the headquarters in Leibnitz and at offices in Graz and in Oldenburg, Germany.
The company also supplies maintenance and production management software to industrial sectors. Rail is served through the Boom Rail Solutions product line, the company’s suite of digital systems and software for the rail sector.
Products and services
Boom Rail Solutions provides asset management and lifecycle software for rolling stock, with modules for asset management, workshop management, maintenance engineering, operations, wheelset management and fault reporting. Interfaces between the modules link engineering, asset and workshop processes.
The product line is built around the entity in charge of maintenance (ECM) framework under Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/779. The software supports the ECM 2 (maintenance development), ECM 3 (fleet maintenance management) and ECM 4 (maintenance delivery) functions.
Customers and recent activity
Customers include Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB), Deutsche Bahn, Siemens Mobility Austria, Innofreight, Steiermarkbahn, Northrail and Stadtwerke Bonn, according to the company. The customer base spans railway undertakings, vehicle owners and maintenance workshops, primarily in the German-speaking market.
In March 2026, FlixTrain went live on Boom Rail Solutions for ECM-compliant asset and maintenance management, according to the company’s own channels. In July 2025, Boom Software and PJ Messtechnik established the joint venture Infratrack Solutions to operate a rail test environment on the connecting railway of the decommissioned coal-fired power station at Mellach.
