Associated Rewinds
Associated Rewinds (Ireland) Ltd is an independent Irish specialist in the repair, rewinding, and remanufacture of AC and DC traction motors for trains, trams, and metro systems.
Associated Rewinds was founded in 1986 by Peter Geoghegan and is headquartered at Tallaght Business Park in Dublin. The company remains privately held and works exclusively on traction motor engineering.
Its factory units at the Tallaght site each specialise in a different aspect of the work, from testing to in-house manufacture of coils and shafts.
Services
The core offering covers overhaul and corrective maintenance of AC and DC traction motors, rewinding of stators and armatures, and manufacture of new armatures, rotors, coils, shafts, end-bells, and bearing housings. Vacuum pressure impregnation of windings is carried out in-house.
The company’s traction motor remanufacturing also covers reverse engineering of components where original manufacturer drawings are unavailable. Unit exchange and float management programmes support operators running mixed or ageing fleets.
Market position
Associated Rewinds lists ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certification on its website, alongside supplier qualification through Achilles Link-up in the UK and TransQ in the Nordic countries. The same listing still carries OHSAS 18001:2007, a standard since withdrawn, so the accreditation status shown is not necessarily current.
Beyond Ireland and the UK, the company’s self-published reference list covers Western Europe, Scandinavia, and the Middle East, and names operators, maintainers, and leasing companies including SNCF, DB, Irish Rail, Eurotunnel, Alstom, Mantena, and SJ.
The company sits outside the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) groups, and its work is confined to overhaul, rewind, and component manufacture rather than new-build motor supply.
Current activity
Associated Rewinds is listed as an exhibitor at InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin, 22–25 September 2026, according to Messe Berlin’s exhibitor list.
