Antonics
Antonics is a German family-owned manufacturer of planar multiband antennas for rail vehicles, buses, and transport infrastructure, based in Velten near Berlin.
Founded in 2007 by Knut Feige and René Röder, the company employed 27 people as of 2022, according to a report by the municipality of Velten. The company remains privately held and family-run, with design, development, and precision manufacturing concentrated at its Velten site. All mechanical precision parts are produced in-house, alongside antenna simulation and assembly at the Velten site.
Core products
Antonics develops train antennas and multiband systems under product lines including OmPlecs, X-Plecs, and OmProtec, covering frequency ranges from 50 MHz to 8,000 MHz. Its planar antenna technology combines several communication standards — including GSM-R, UMTS, LTE, 5G, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), Wi-Fi, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), and TETRA — in one housing, with selective coupling per frequency range.
The range extends to antennas for the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), configurations with up to 16 configurable ports, and compact filters for GSM-R band suppression. Antennas are designed and tested to EN 50155 for rolling stock use, covering the vibration, temperature, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) conditions typical of rail operation.
Market position
Antonics supplies both original equipment and aftermarket antennas to rail vehicle manufacturers and operators, alongside a parallel bus and infrastructure antenna business.
According to the company, its antennas are installed in Deutsche Bahn rolling stock and in vehicles operated by several German and international transport companies.
In January 2022, Deutsche Bahn’s maintenance division, DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung, selected the company’s cross-polarised 5G MIMO train antennas for its Colibri onboard IT portfolio. Close to 3,000 Antonics multiband antennas have been integrated into Berlin transport operator BVG’s bus, tram, and metro fleets through systems integrator LAT, enabling 5G MIMO Wi-Fi in newly equipped buses.
Current activity
Antonics is a regular exhibitor at InnoTrans in Berlin, presenting antennas for rail connectivity to an international trade audience.
Recent product development has centred on FRMCS-compatible antennas and higher-order MIMO systems, reflecting the sector’s shift toward 5G-based onboard networks and the eventual replacement of GSM-R. As of 2026, the company states it has added a robotic assembly system to its Velten production line alongside its existing manufacturing team.
