AMiT Transportation
AMiT Transportation is a Czech developer and manufacturer of onboard electronics and train communication network components for rail vehicles, headquartered in Prague and supplying vehicle builders and integrators across Europe and Asia.
The company’s origins date to 1992, when AMiT was founded as a developer of microprocessor-based control electronics. Rail vehicle electronics grew into one of its two core divisions alongside industrial automation.
In September 2022, the Czech private equity fund Central Europe Industry Partners (CEIP) acquired a 70% stake in AMiT, with the original owners retaining the remainder. In January 2025 the automation division was carved out as a separate company, and the original legal entity was renamed AMiT Transportation s.r.o., with product development remaining at the Prague headquarters.
Train communication network products
AMiT Transportation supplies complete Train Communication Network (TCN) systems in accordance with IEC 61375. This is industrial networking for rail in its most literal form: the buses that carry control and diagnostic data between vehicles and between the systems inside them. Its Wire Train Bus (WTB) gateways integrate up to three onboard communication types — Multifunction Vehicle Bus (MVB), Controller Area Network (CAN) and Ethernet — in a single node.
The gateways are available in a compact standalone version and a modular subrack version. The subrack version supports redundancy at both gateway and power supply level, and the units conform to UIC leaflet 556 and are designed to EN 50155.
The networking portfolio also includes MVB converters and modules, Train Real-time Data Protocol (TRDP) modules, and WTB/MVB bus analysers for diagnostics of TCN communication. Alongside the bus components, the company produces Ethernet infrastructure for rail vehicles: managed and unmanaged switches, routers and converters.
Standards work and references
The company takes part in the standards bodies that define its corner of rail connectivity and communications: IEC TC9 working groups WG43 (IEC 61375) and WG46 (IEC 62580), and the UIC–IEC Trainet & Multimedia Group. It is a member of the Czech railway industry association ACRI.
According to its ACRI profile, the company has around 160 employees, and its key rail customers include Škoda Transportation and Siemens.
Company-reported reference deliveries include 110 MVB/CAN gateways to Kiepe Electric — part of the Knorr-Bremse group until its sale to Heramba, which closed in January 2024 — for Ruhrbahn’s tram fleet in Essen, and 250 WTB gateway components to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited in India, with TCN deliveries into markets including the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Turkey and India.
Current activity
In late 2024, the AMiT group acquired a majority stake in Bustec, a Czech manufacturer of passenger information systems with branches in Germany and Romania, extending the group’s transport electronics portfolio.
In 2025 the company took part in a Czech Railways trial of a rail version of the Starlink satellite antenna on an InterPanter unit, announced in July 2025 and carried out with Škoda Group and other partners, and it supplied onboard systems for RegioJet’s PESA Elf 655 electric units, which entered service in the Prague integrated transport area on 1 April 2025.
AMiT Transportation exhibited at InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin and at Rail Business Days 2025 in Ostrava.
