Wabtec Corporation is a US supplier of locomotives, rail equipment, signalling and digital services for freight and passenger rail, headquartered in Pittsburgh. In Europe it is mainly a component and subsystem supplier, built through the takeover of French group Faiveley Transport and a series of later acquisitions.
Wabtec is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and its name stands for Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies. The group reported sales of USD 11.17bn in 2025, split between a Freight and a Transit segment.
The 2019 merger with GE Transportation added diesel-electric freight locomotives, a business centred on North America. Wabtec does not build passenger trains for the European market.
European footprint
Wabtec took majority control of Faiveley Transport in 2016. Faiveley’s range covers brakes, door systems, air conditioning, pantographs and couplers for train builders and operators.
On 1 December 2025, Wabtec completed the purchase of Austrian train detection specialist Frauscher Sensor Technology at an enterprise value of EUR 675m. The deal added axle counters and wayside object control to the group’s signalling range.
In February 2026, Wabtec completed the acquisition of Swedish coupler and gangway maker Dellner Couplers. Dellner has an installed base of about 100,000 couplers and 12,500 gangways, with production and service in 13 countries.
