Turkey’s own high-speed train enters testing

TURKEY: On-track testing will begin this week for a new domestically developed 225 km/h high-speed train built by state manufacturer Türasaş for TCDD Taşımacılık.
The eight-car trainset has been completed and will now enter trials on the national network. Authorities say the programme is intended to expand domestic production of high-speed rolling stock.
The train has a maximum operating speed of 225 km/h and marks Turkey’s first domestically developed high-speed train designed for future production.
Türasaş developed the train as part of a broader government strategy to strengthen Turkey’s rail manufacturing industry.
14 additional trainsets
Turkey’s transport ministry has previously said the programme envisages a fleet of around 14 additional trainsets to be built between 2026 and 2028 if the testing phase proceeds as planned.
The trains are expected to enter passenger service from the second half of 2026 or around 2027 following completion of the testing and certification process.
They are intended for operation on Turkey’s existing high-speed network linking cities including Ankara, Istanbul and Konya. Current services on these routes are operated mainly with imported Siemens Velaro trainsets.
