SNCF Network launches EUR 315 million track renewal frameworks

Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF) Network has launched two framework agreements for nationwide track renewal works worth EUR 315 million over three years, with options that could extend the total value to EUR 525 million through 2030. Contractor selection is expected in early 2026.
The frameworks, each valued at around EUR 52.5 million annually, will run from 2026 to 2028 with the possibility of two one-year extensions. The program covers key renewal tasks including rail and sleeper replacement, ballast renewal, and full-track reconstruction across both high-speed and conventional lines. SNCF Network said the initiative aims to reduce maintenance backlogs and modernize France’s 27,000-kilometre rail network after years of underinvestment.
Strategic context
The frameworks address maintenance backlogs and support France’s climate strategy by improving rail capacity and reliability. Better track condition is critical for shifting passenger and freight traffic from road to rail, while giving SNCF Network more predictable renewal planning and competitive pricing through pre-approved suppliers.
Next steps
Winning contractors are expected to be announced in early 2026, allowing sufficient time for mobilisation before the start of works. Priority renewal sections will be chosen based on technical assessments and traffic volumes.
