Siemens and Newag team up for Polish high-speed order

Siemens Mobility and Polish rolling-stock manufacturer Newag have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together on potential bids for Poland’s upcoming KDP train procurement.
The agreement would expand their existing co-operation on metro trains into Poland’s KDP high-speed programme, linked to PKP Intercity’s planned tender.
PKP Intercity is moving ahead with its first major fleet purchase for Poland’s future KDP high-speed lines (up to 320 km/h). The tender was launched in late December 2025.
The MoU does not define a detailed division of work. Polish reporting around the announcement said the partners aim to set more concrete terms in a follow-on agreement in April.
What the Siemens–Newag MoU covers
The announcement frames the partnership as an industrial pairing ahead of a major national procurement, rather than a contract award. For Siemens, the obvious question is how much of the train platform and systems scope would remain with the OEM, and what would be executed locally.
For Newag, the key unknown is how far the role extends beyond assembly and integration — including testing, certification activities, and any lifecycle support package attached to the tender.
Until a binding agreement is published, the MoU’s real significance will depend on whether it settles three basics: how the work is split, who carries delivery risk, and what maintenance package would be offered with the bid.
