Rail manager SŽ to cut over 120 jobs

CZECHIA: Správa železnic (SŽ) will reorganise from April, centralising selected specialist functions and eliminating more than 120 posts in a management overhaul.
The company announced the restructuring on Feb. 24 and will merge selected specialist units while shifting responsibilities into a more streamlined management model.
SŽ expects recurring savings from the headcount reduction and a simplified organisational structure. Separately, the company is pursuing plans for a new headquarters in Prague as part of wider redevelopment around Praha-Smíchov station, though the project’s location and timeline remain under review.
What changes in the new structure
Under the new model, selected specialist functions will be consolidated at central level, while regional structures will be streamlined. Management responsibilities will be clarified across planning, investment preparation and operational oversight.
The aim is to reduce duplication and shorten internal decision processes. The changes are scheduled to take effect in April.
For the rail system, the reorganisation comes as SŽ continues to manage a broad investment pipeline and network modernisation programme. A more centralised structure is likely to influence how projects are prioritised, prepared and procured across the network.
