Rail Baltica signs joint deals for core track materials

CROSS-BORDER: Rail Baltica’s central coordinator RB Rail says framework agreements for key track materials are being finalised to support construction across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
The joint procurement covers core track components such as rails, sleepers and fastening systems needed to assemble the track structure.
The packages also include technical elements such as earthing and bonding cables and trackside cable ducts used for signalling, power and other railway systems.
Rail Baltica has faced delays, rising cost estimates and disputes over funding between the Baltic governments. Joint procurement of key track materials is intended to align construction standards and supply chains as work expands across the corridor.
A new standard-gauge line linking the Baltic state
For Rail Baltica, the approach ensures that core track components — including rails and sleepers — are procured under common specifications across the corridor.
That reduces the risk of national variations in infrastructure design and helps keep construction schedules aligned. The procurement is coordinated by RB Rail, the joint venture established by Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to oversee delivery of the railway.
Rail Baltica will create a new standard-gauge line linking the Baltic states with Poland and the wider European rail network, forming a north–south corridor within the EU’s TEN-T network.
