Leo Express enters Polish domestic market

POLAND: Czech open-access operator Leo Express has entered Poland’s domestic passenger market by extending its Prague–Kraków services to Warsaw, adding a new competitor on one of the country’s main intercity corridors.
The move places Leo Express directly on the Warsaw–Kraków route, one of Poland’s busiest long-distance passenger markets and a core axis of the national rail network.
Czech operator expands Prague corridor
By extending its existing Prague–Kraków services to Warsaw, Leo Express has lengthened the route to link the Czech capital with Warsaw and Kraków.
Trains serve Warszawa Wschodnia, Warszawa Centralna and Warszawa Zachodnia before heading south via Opoczno Południe and Włoszczowa Północ to Kraków.
The operator is initially running two daily trains in each direction and plans to increase frequency later this year.
Competition on Poland’s main intercity route
The Warsaw–Kraków line is one of Poland’s most important passenger corridors and remains largely dominated by state operator PKP Intercity.
Leo Express’s entry adds an open-access competitor on the route and underlines how smaller operators are gradually expanding services across passenger markets in Central Europe.
