DB launches station action programme at 25 locations

Deutsche Bahn has launched an action programme to improve safety, cleanliness and everyday station operations, starting at 25 selected stations, including major hubs and a number of smaller locations.
The programme includes EUR 50m in additional funding in 2026 and focuses on measures intended to keep stations running smoothly day to day, including a higher staff presence, intensified cleaning and faster handling of minor defects. DB says the initiative is designed to reduce problems at stations where incidents and faults often trigger knock-on delays across the network.
What changes on the ground
The initial package combines three measures: more visible staff and security presence, tighter cleaning routines, and quicker minor repairs to keep facilities working and reduce operational disruption.
DB also says it is working with the federal police to expand the use of CCTV at stations, as part of a broader effort to reduce incidents at busy locations.
Scale, rollout and maintenance basics
Alongside the targeted intervention at 25 stations, DB plans to expand its “spring clean” programme to 1,400 stations in 2026, up from 700 the year before. The focus is not major construction, but basic condition: cleanliness, working fixtures and quick fixes that shape station performance during peak flows and disruption.
