Alstom hits 100-train ERTMS milestone in Norway

Alstom has upgraded its 100th train with onboard ERTMS in Norway, marking a milestone in the country’s nationwide signalling transition.
The programme will ultimately equip more than 350 trains with onboard ERTMS, according to Alstom. The upgrades are performed at Alstom’s Grorud depot near Oslo and the Marienborg depot near Trondheim.
The delivery involves infrastructure manager Bane NOR, rolling stock owner Norske Tog, passenger operators Vy Group and SJ Norge, and freight operators in Norway.
Programme scope and delivery pace
The work covers passenger trains, locomotives and track maintenance machines. Alstom says two vehicle groups have already been completed: heavy-duty maintenance machine vehicles and rescue locomotives, both owned and operated by Bane NOR.
Alstom says the system upgrade is progressing at a pace of 3–4 passenger trains per month.
